Details of instrument
Peel Region adopted ROPA 33 on March 12, 2020 by By-law 18-2020 and has forwarded ROPA 33 to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing ("Ministry") for a decision under section 17 and 26 of the Planning Act.
ROPA 33 proposes to expand the Regional Urban Boundary of the Peel Region Official Plan by approximately 350 hectares, approximately 110 of which would be developable. ROPA 33 also provides an updated policy framework to guide further planning review on the Ninth Line Lands.
The Ninth Line Lands were transferred from the the Region of Halton/Town of Milton to the Region of Peel/City of Mississauga on January 1, 2010, as part of a restructuring process for municipal boundary realignment.
According to the Region's submission, ROPA 33 would implement A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe's ("A Place to Grow") population and employment forecasts to a 2031 planning horizon. The Region plans to address whether there is additional need for settlement area boundary expansions based on A Place to Grow's population and employment forecasts to a 2041 planning horizon through their broader official plan review process, known as Peel 2041.
All comments received prior to the posting deadline will be considered as part of the decision-making process by the Ministry if they are submitted by mail or electronically through this Environmental Registry posting. If submitting comments by mail, please reference this posting's ERO (Environmental Registry of Ontario) number: 019-1848.
Comments must be submitted within the time restrictions of this notice to be considered prior to a final decision by the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing ("Minister"). The Minister may refuse the official plan amendment, approve the official plan amendment in part, or approve the official plan amendment with modifications.
