I am calling on Ontario government to reject Schedule 3 of Bill 257. It is unacceptable for the government to destroy Ontario’s significant natural areas and to change the law so the government can’t be held accountable. I stand with Ontario’s natural environment and with democracy. Thank you.

This proposed amendment is a blatant misuse of power that panders to developers. It is not in the interests of the public at large and only serves to help those who have a vested, monetary interest in the development of environmentally significant areas. Lire davantage

It would seem that in burying Schedule 3 within the Omnibus Bill 257, Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021, the government is sensitive to how it is perceived by the people of Ontario in its use of Minster’s Zoning Orders (MZOs). Lire davantage

I would like to go on record as strongly opposed to the exempting of Minister’s Zoning orders (MZOs) from complying with the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS) and, further, to the abuse of MZOs in general. Lire davantage

As noted in our January 2021 submission, MZOs should be used in extremely limited circumstances for projects under urgent timelines, that have high-level strategic importance and address key matters of Provincial interest (e.g. Lire davantage

As an Architectural Technologist, I want to see projects proceed in a timely manner, but this change is frankly outrageous and an insult to communities across the province. Lire davantage

1) Through Schedule 3 of Bill 257 (the proposed Bill 257, Supporting Broadband and Infrastructure Expansion Act, 2021) it is proposed to amend the Planning Act, so that a Minister’s zoning order would not have to be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement. Lire davantage

Schedule 3 undermines the very basis of public land use planning in Ontario, which is supposed to be a policy-led system. Schedule 3 undermines the support for heritage conservation and environmental protection which the Provincial Policy Statement provides.

Using minister's zoning orders to override policy set in place to protect the environment is immoral and an abuse of power. I oppose Schedule 3 of Bill 257 and wish for MZOs to stop being used to destroy nature. Lire davantage
