This is a massive over reaction by the provincial government. It completely bypasses the will and desires of the people who live in the communities with any bike lines that may be removed, and is very un-democratic. By the government's own admission, they have not actually fully considered whether these bike lanes are a net good for the communities. The Premier has openly admitted that several bike lanes in Toronto are already on the chopping block, and that they are not going to do any consultations about whether that is a bad idea. For a government that likes to talk of small government and less red tape, to lock bike lanes behind the Ministry of Transportation and remove bike lanes against the will of the communities they serve, this is a lot of unnecessary red tape and government overreach.
