Our family and community are fully OPPOSED to the changes in the proposed Conservation Authority ACT and are against the consolidation of conservation authorities in Ontario. Uphold each operating authority as their own respective identity and allow critical decisions to be made as per the character, natural heritage, wildlife and environmental/climate change needs must remain with that specific authority. Consolidating authorities will NOT accurately, nor effectively and responsibly address the integrity and functions of each conservation authority and the surrounding region. The diversity of Ontario's watershed, flood plains and lands must be fully protected accordingly and not distilled or aggregated for the provincial government to intervene and re-establish newly formulated authorities that cannot effectively protect or preserve for the benefits of future generations.
We NOTE many of the conservation authorities Boards have said NO to these proposed changes including the Ganaraska Conservation Authority of the Ganaraska watershed.
This opposition by communities throughout Ontario must be listened to and adhered to by the current provincial government and respective agencies involved.
