These MZOs represent a profound override of local democracy despite Oakville’s full compliance with provincial policies and proven track record of growth and housing development. The Town’s Official Plan Amendment for Midtown (OPA 70) was developed transparently, with public input and Council approval. TOC was developed behind closed doors under confidentiality agreements, forwarding a developer-driven plan with little or no consultation. This misuse of provincial power smacks of cronyism and government failure like the Greenbelt scandal. The government should not go forward with a bad product produced by a seriously flawed process.

These MZOs would force extreme and reckless density on Midtown, without the infrastructure to support it. The idea that they propose to add new roads or widen existing is preposterous as there is nowhere to go. Trafalgar Road has already been widened as much as possible, the QEW is directly north, rail lines are directly south and to the west is the 16 Mile Creek ravine. How will this alleviate traffic and pollution? How does this developer proposal advance affordable housing? It seems to me it only enriches the developer at the expense of livability, infrastructure capacity, and the public interest.
I vote NO to these MZOs.
