The current moose tag system already is putting a toll on our moose populations. The policy makers who work downtown Peterborough do not have the first hand experience of those who have lived and grown up living off the land such as hunters, First Nations, and those who harvest sustainably to provide for their families and communities.
There is already too many tags issued to control a harvest effectively and sustainably. With the increase in global warming, forestry operations, and mineral exploration, the moose barely have a chance. This animal has provided for my First Nation community and fed many families throughout the years. Increasing the number of tags would not help the already declining population in moose. It should also be noted that First Nation harvesters are noting that the moose are more sick. With an increased amount of spots on the liver.
Anyone that lives in areas with moose, have heard countless stories of people no longer harvesting moose for their own morality since their decline.
