The PWU appreciates the opportunity to submit comments and make recommendations to the Ministry of Energy and Electrification’s request for public feedback on what principles and commitments should inform the government’s policy on the long-term role of natural gas in the province’s energy system. The PWU is a strong supporter and advocate for the prudent and rational reform of Ontario’s electricity sector and recognizes the importance of low-cost, low-carbon energy to the competitiveness of Ontario’s economic sectors.
The PWU believes that there is an evident need to sustain and expand the province’s use of natural gas as Ontario progresses to a clean energy economy. Dual-fuel heat pumps, expanded natural gas-fired generation, and investments in alternative fuels are all critical elements of this transition
