I am commenting on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). I am opposed to this proposal which goes against decades of work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers across the city to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario.
The Great Lakes are already struggling to keep up with increasing amounts of pollution and waste discharges from sewage and agricultural runoff. This proposal not only increases stress on an already stressed environment, it flies in the face of international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes.
This sewage risks human health by contaminating water quality at beaches, fishing, and the quality of the lake itself, which brings thousands of dollars in revenue as an attraction for both Canadian an international visitors.
This proposal benefits no one except the wealthy, foreign-owned private company that Doug Ford has sold our land to. It is not in public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of severe biodiversity loss.
please do not accept this shoddy proposal in lieu of actual, fact-based evidence that this will be an overall loss for Canadians.
