I am writing to comment on the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support development at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard (Ontario Place). While I recognize the importance of development, I am deeply opposed to this proposal. It blatantly disregards decades of critical work by the City of Toronto to eliminate combined sewers and prevent raw sewage from polluting Lake Ontario. Approving this plan would undermine international agreements aimed at protecting water quality and ecosystems in the Great Lakes, which are already under immense stress.

This effluent poses a direct threat to human health, degrading water quality at beaches, endangering fishing activities, and diminishing the lake’s value as a destination for both Canadian and international visitors. Moreover, the province has failed to consult the general public on this proposal, shutting out vital voices from a decision that impacts us all.

This project prioritizes private sector profits over the public interest and jeopardizes the health of Lake Ontario’s ecosystem during an era of unprecedented biodiversity loss. Approving this permit would set a dangerous precedent, one that undermines decades of environmental progress and threatens one of Canada’s most vital natural resources.

I URGE you to DENY this permit in the strongest possible terms.
