I am commenting on the new Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage) for Infrastructure Ontario for the approval of interim combined sewer overflows to be constructed at 955 Lake Shore Boulevard West (Ontario Place), in the City of Toronto.
I am opposed to the proposal which will discharge storm water and raw sewage into Lake Ontario, which goes against the many years of work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewage into the lake. International agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes are being ignored in order to do this work.
Lake Ontario is used for recreation by local and international visitors even during the winter and this proposal will risk their health, in addition to the health of the animals that call this lake home.
The province has not held any consultations about this work with the public. This proposal to benefit private sector initiatives i.e. the Therme Megaspa, is not in the public interest and threatens the stability of the lake ecosystem in a time of severe biodiversity loss.
Please deny this permit.
