I am outraged that a proposal endangering the life of humans, plants and animals will be approved without proper investigation.
And yet, this seems to be the case for this proposal.

I emailed enviropermissions@ontario.ca on January 12 and asked how I could see the supporting documentation for this application.
I explained I was looking for answers to the following questions
* what sewer overflows are going to be combined?
* how long is the "interim" period?
* what studies have been undertaken to determine the likely impact on plant and animal life in the vicinity (both on land and in the lake)
* what studies have been undertaken to determine possible risks to swimmers, rowers and water sport enthusiasts using the West Channel Lake Ontario?
* what did those studies conclude as to the risks?
* what did those studies suggest as to how those risks might be mitigated?
* did those studies suggest banning water sports in Lake Ontario West Channel, or limiting or prohibiting use of the bordering shoreline?

I got an email reply on January 14 saying
"The answers to your questions may possibly be found in the supporting material, should it be available."
I telephoned 1-800-461-6290 and asked specifically, IS the supporting material availabe?
The person answering the phone did not know, said she would inquire and let me know.
No further communication has occurred.

So I conclude there is NOTHING that supports this request for a new Environmental Compliance Approval (sewage) for Infrastructure Ontario.
NOTHING to suggest we won't be polluting Lake Ontario with storm water discharge into Lake Ontario.
NOTHING to suggest Infrastructure Ontario won't be creating a health risk -- for human swimmers and for fish, birds, animals and plant life.

This is an outrage.
This proposal should NOT be approved until the public sees scientists' opinions that it will not harm Lake Ontario.
