Regarding the proposal for an interim combined sewer to support the Therme Megaspa development at Ontario Place:
I am opposed to this proposal for this costly infrastructure work ($60 million) as it is being paid for by taxpayers to fund a private commercial enterprise.
It will undercut long-term work by the City of Toronto to separate and replace combined sewers to prevent the discharge of raw sewage into Lake Ontario.
The proposed infrastructure puts at risk water quality for our beaches, in turn risking human health and risking the biodiversity of the lake's ecosystem.
It also ignores our international agreements to protect water quality and habitat in the Great Lakes.
Further, the Government of Ontario has not held any public consultations regarding the proposal.
It is not in the public interest, it is a waste of public funds and it puts public amenities and health at risk.
This Megaspa does not belong on the waterfront and should be relocated to a location which will not impact local traffic.
Please deny this permit.
