Bill 5 is a short-sighted, heavy handed resolve that does not put the people nor land of Ontario first.
Not only does it put so many animals and plants at risk, but the ability to effectively exempt any project from provincial and municipal laws with “special economic zones” is way too powerful and sweeping, and way too easy to abuse. Additionally, this bill also reduces the control and voice of Indigenous communities.
That's a full 3 count already:
1) Weakens the environment and adds further risk to already endangered species 2) Weakens Indigenous rights and participation in due process over land 3) Weakens the democratic voice of the people and grants executive powers to the Minister of Economic Development
And all for the benefit of whom... corporations? No thank you.
This Bill tears down the protections that have been built up over years - decades - and replaces them with industry-friendly policies instead, that line pockets and almost impressively ignores both the future and the past.
This movement should NOT pass.
