As a concerned Ontario resident, I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed landfill operation at 29831 Irish School Road, near Dresden, Ontario.

This situation mirrors the same troubling issues seen in the Greenbelt scandal — government decisions appearing to benefit powerful developers or donors, while ignoring public input, environmental risks, and expert oversight.

York1, the company behind the landfill, is a known PC Party donor. Bill 5 would allow this landfill to proceed without a full Environmental Assessment (EA), despite being less than 1 km from a thriving community and only 700 metres from two schools. This site is also dangerously close to Molly’s Creek and the Sydenham River, home to endangered species and a critical source of water.

In 2020, Bill 197 was passed precisely to protect towns from unsafe landfill siting. Dresden deserves that same protection. The site is in a floodplain, near agricultural land, and would bring an estimated 700 heavy trucks per day down rural roads — putting children, farmers, and families at risk.

This isn’t just about garbage. It’s about trust, health, and fairness. We are witnessing the same pattern as the Greenbelt: decisions made behind closed doors that put profits over people. Dresden is not disposable and we are real people.

We demand the full Environmental Assessment be upheld and that this proposal be rejected until proper consultation and science-based review are completed.
