I am commenting as a citizen of Toronto to strongly object to the proposed exemptions from The Environmental Bill of Rights that will remove the right of Ontarians to be advised of, or to comment on, any required permits at Ontario Place, on our offsite, to support the project.
The purpose of the environmental bill of rights is to protect the environment in Ontario for future generations. Thousands of Ontarians have spoken out against this project, journalists (including the New York Times) have investigated the issues with this project, and yet no one within government seems to be listening.
The proposal is not in the public interest. It only benefits, private companies and foreign companies. In the face of a climate crisis, this project is incredibly tone deaf.
I am calling on the Ontario government to remove schedule 8 of the new protect Ontario by unleashing our economy act of 2025.
Our premier keeps saying Canada is not for sale and yet he is selling off our public space and our green space to the highest bidder. He is ruining Ontario for future generations.
Thank you, Kate Evans.
