The removal of the environmental assessment needed to determine if the proposed York 1 dump that is to be located just outside Dresden is unjust, immoral and deeply disturbing. The dump is to be located along the Sydenham river. It is to be very detrimental to this ecosystem, which includes many rare and endangered species. In addition to this, there is the potential for serious pollution of water systems, which among other things, would wreak havoc on the local agricultural community through its terrible effects on soil, crops and livestock.
The air quality in and around the dump site will also be affected. Airborne pollutants and strong odours would be detrimental to the health of everyone, especially affecting the town’s children, elderly, and those with preexisting conditions, whose health would suffer.
Please consider the above with an open heart. I have lived in Dresden almost exclusively for 33 years. My whole life. I love this town dearly. It has the most beautiful community of diverse people. These people have worked very hard over many decades to beautify the parks and amenities and take pride in what we have accomplished. We are a proud agricultural community and produce food for the big cities in Ontario and beyond. If this proposal goes through we would all be negatively affected. Please look into your hearts and reconsider the removal of environmental assessment requirements for the proposed York1 dump.
