The summary of this act is:
Through the proposed Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025, we are proposing amendments to the Rebuilding Ontario Place Act, 2023. The proposed legislation provides an exemption from Part II of the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993, which includes requirements for giving public notice and opportunities for comment, for proposals for provincial permits and approvals related to the Ontario Place redevelopment project, or that further the project (i.e., not at the site).
If I am reading this correctly, you are proposing to remove the requirement to notify the public and allow comments on anything that happens as part of Ontario Place redevelopment, which has actually been total destruction of it's heritage and cultural attributes. It has stood in a state of great disrepair at the hands of many provincial governments, yours included, but wiping it off the face of the earth in favour of a private spa, on land that is public, is simply corrupt. The corruption the Ford government claims to be against in situations like that south of the border.
How is it then acceptable in the democracy this government portends to uphold that the public be cut out of due notice and the democratic rights put in place to allow comments. What is this government so afraid of that you would keep the public in the dark and cut off opportunities to speak?
This government has unilaterally done the same thing with the Ontario Science Centre, using lame excuses of an unsafe roof (so fix it!) to shut it down.
This along with multiple runs at trying to kill protections on the Greenbelt smacks of the same corruption and internal collusion that Doug Ford pretends to be fighting against.Proposals for these permits and approvals would otherwise be required to be posted to the Environmental Registry of Ontario.
