I completely oppose this…

I completely oppose this proposal. It rests on an absurd principle, that one can except things from the rules that have been established for the purposes of protecting the public interest.

Those rules have purposes. That is not addressed at all in the proposal. What this proposal really is is a declaration of dictatorship by the current political party in power at Queens Park.

Additionally, it is a dictatorship over other elected officials at a municipal level and other decision making bodies that have long been recognized as legitimate in Ontario.

The proposal also rest on the mistaken view that we are in a desperate situation and therefore should break all the rules. It is using a threat posed by the new US president as an excuse to duplicate what the new US president does. It’s well known that he breaks the rules, with executive orders and other such measures that override the legislatures and override the courts and override existing laws

So this is a Doug Ford making out to be Donald Trump or maybe it’s Doug Trump making out to be Donald Ford. It’s hard to tell. Legislation like this makes a clarion call for revolution because it’s clear that the democratic process that we are supposed to live under is being overridden.

Your government was elected with less than 20% of the electorate support. And you didn’t tell them in advance that this is the kind of shenanigans you would get up to.

Shame! Shame! Down with dictatorship!
