Like the First Nations, we're not going anywhere, either, and must live in the environment we've created.
If species are endangered, that means they're experiencing loss of habitability in their environment; there aren't as many places they can live as there used to be, and more die than are born.
Loss of habitability absolutely applies to us; if other species are endangered, we are at risk. We need a general policy of never accepting decrease in species diversity (the count of species) or species disparity (the number of types of life as expressed in body plans) as a result of economic activity. It's not an infinite world to be looted; it's our home, of which we have only one.
We need stronger environmental protections, not weaker ones. Air quality has got worse under the Ford governments, and low air quality damages people, sometimes enough to kill them. General ongoing agricultural collapse is not just from climate change, but also from wiping out all the insects with a mix of pesticides and artificial lighting. We urgently need law and regulation to reverse that process.
