I am extremely concerned…

I am extremely concerned that our town council is hugely in support of development and will not respect the unique ecology of Wasaga Beach. This mayor has not indicated, ever, that he supports the protection of the piping plovers who have nested on our beach since 2008. In the past when his council had an agreement from the provincial park for control of part of Beach 1 the council then allowed transport trucks onto the beach for a special event. Placed a beer tent with portapotties directly on the beach. Those of us who have volunteered with the Piping Plover programme and have participated in beach restoration do not trust our current council to protect the unique features of our beach eg. marram grass, dunes, migratory birds nesting areas, mature oaks and pines. This green space is important for human mental health, wet lands are necessary for clean water. This council has declared their support for increased condo residences in the beach parkland. Keeping the beach "public" will not necessarily protect the health of Wasaga Beach and Nottawasaga Bay.
