As a long-time North End…

As a long-time North End Hamilton resident I care deeply about the Jamesville housing development. It has been extremely frustrating to see this land sit vacant for so many years. At a time when we need more housing in our city and in our neighbourhood, it is completely inappropriate. It is very important to me, and I believe to our entire neighbourhood, that this new development include a variety of housing options. It absolutely must include housing for low income families. Affordable housing -actually affordable housing- must be part of the mix. I am encouraged that Indwell will be part of the re-development project. This is critical and must remain part of the project.

It is also critical that this happens immediately. The delay been going on a decade and this large parcel of land has sat vacant for far too long. We cant wait any longer. We must develop this land into mixed income housing. It is has become a dangerous eyesore in the heart of our neighbourhood. The potential to create a beautiful, diverse, affordable living option must be acted on. The appeal from CN has created a stall in the development of this project with no end in sight and for no justifiable reason. People have lived within close proximity to the shunting area for decades. It has not been a major problem in the past -why all of a sudden has it become an insurmountable problem?
