This proposal should be denied until a comprehensive study can be completed from an unbiased and independent water and soil expert consulting firm to confirm and guarantee no negative impacts will be made to human health and safety and the natural environment of the local area, including Green Lake residents and local community.
What impacts will infilling have on the water shed and the Credit River? Any excess soil could be contaminated by a number of elements which could leach into the water system.
That amount of excess soil could change lead to changes in the soil permeability causing increased surface runoff impacting Green Lake and well water and Credit River.
Questions need to be answered about how the excess soil will be tested at what frequency to ensure no contaminates are in the soil.
Who will monitor the testing and keep haulage records? This should not be self-monitored - this is a conflict of interest.
This proposal should be denied because of local issues like noise, dust, and the huge increase in dump truck and gravel truck traffic, which will further damage our roads.
Also, the proposal GROSSLY mischaracterizes the body of water to be infilled as a "pond". Any body of water and site that will be infilled with more than 11,000,000 CUBIC METERS of "excess soil" is not and should not be termed a pond! In the province's own fact sheets, excess-soil reuse sites that will receive greater than 10,000 cubic meters are considered large sites.
Therefore, a site which is proposed to receive 100 TIMES that amount of excess soil, should be MORE CLEARLY termed and described as an enormous reuse site (or a term which represents the enormous scale of this site relative to provincial definition of a "large site" which is only 10,000 cubic meters) and the major body of water which currently occupies this site should be called and described a significant lake to avoid. and proves how large the proposed reuse site.
