I am opposed to the proposed changes to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park. Protecting this land in perpetuity, as it was established when the park was created, benefits all Ontarians in protecting sensitive environmental features including endangered Piping Plover breeding habitat and unique sand dune vegetation communities, as well as providing flood protection. Provincial parks are lands held in trust for all Ontarians. Changes to the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, particularly when the proposed amendments have not been fully disclosed, sets a dangerous precedent in weakening conservation laws and dismantling protections across the province. I am also concerned that it goes against Indigenous rights as the Park is on unceded Treaty 18 territory - the sale can constitute as environmental racism against First Nations Peoples. Wasaga Beach Provincial Park as it stands today is a symbol of public access, ecological integrity, and shared heritage. It should not be sold.
