Wyloo is pleased to submit our comments to ERO 025-0660.
We are currently developing the Eagle’s Nest critical mineral project in the Ring of Fire region. The mine will produce 15,000 tonnes per year nickel, 6000 tonnes per year copper, and precious metals. With sustainability at the heart of its design, we are implementing industry-leading technologies and processes that will support responsible development in the region. It will also provide partnership opportunities for First Nations and other local communities to create prosperity and opportunity for generations.
The IESO, through its Northern Ontario Connection Study, is evaluating options for connecting remote First Nations communities to the grid, supporting critical minerals mining development in the region and enabling new power generation supply resources. The Greenstone Transmission Line is a necessary link to provide grid power to the remote north including the Ring of Fire region.
Wyloo is in general support of the proposed government actions as presented in the ERO. We commend the government for its commitment to fulfilling its duty to consult Indigenous communities. Given the importance of the critical minerals projects, we request that the government and proponents pursue options for expediting the Greenstone Transmission Line such that the in-service date is earlier than 2032.
