This short-sighted decision will have a significant, irreversible impact on our environment and ecosystems all in the name of supporting bandaid solutions for a crashing economy. This is a clear example of how our failing government systems make reckless decisions to try to buy votes and "show for" the flash in time they are elected. Our world's environmental health and humanity doesn't respond to 4-year government terms, yet, the detrimental decisions made in these short time-frames will have lasting negative impacts. This is disappointing but unsurprising. Any government that makes there types of uneducated, unsupported, colonialist, reckless decisions will never get my support or respect.
I call on out government to make meaningful effort to consult and continuously include the recommendations offered by scientific professionals and indigenous leaders, both of whom hold more knowledge than our pathetic pencil pushing government would ever dream to have. Make educated decisions that support sustainable improvement and progress... this isn't it.
