This is very against Ontario taxpayers and voters, and is actually quite shocking. It removes cities of local authority and decision-making, even when projects are supported by evidence and local residents.
I am a physician and we have to use evidence. This is known to worsen traffic, even from the government advisors. As a physician in the ER, most of my colleagues use bikes as least part of the year to travel to work - it's not feasible, affordable, safe, or sensible to drive and transit it busy. We recommend biking for good health, and if the goverment makes biking unsafe, our ER's will be even more full with accidents which is really concerning and very real. It can be very discouraging how little the medical community is listened to around this.
Additionally, pollution is a major problem in our cities. As a 42 year old, I am from the millenial generation where few can afford cars - although we are not so young, our generation and those younger are often ignored around this. This cuts out the ability of many of us to move safely and affordably in our cities.
Ontario could be beautiful, safe, and people COULD be proud to live here in a citizen-centred place where we feel respected. This is a great example!
