I oppose Bill 60 because it will not solve the problems it claims to fix. Government experts have proven that bike lanes do not create traffic congestion. Adding more bike lanes, improving pedestrian safely, and providing safer more efficient public transportation should be prioritized to reduce congestion.

We need protected bike lanes, not just paint on the road to designate a bike lane. Daily I see cars driving into bike lanes, parked in bike lanes or blocking designated bike turning areas at stop lights. I would love to ride my bike instead of driving my car and I am sure many others would too, but we just don’t feel safe doing so.

I see the line up of cars during school drop off and pick up, just imagine if children had a safer option to get to school. Parents are afraid to let their children bike or walk to school because of the fear that their child will be hit by a car. I have witnessed multiple instances where a car has almost hit a pedestrian including both my sons when crossing at designated cross walks.

Our communities have been built to prioritize cars, and people feel that this is the only option they have to get around. Gone are the days that families have one or two cars, in my neighbourhood most homes have 3 to 4 cars on their driveways. All these extra cars on the road cause traffic not bike lanes.
