I disagree with the implementation of the proposal. In its current form, it seeks to significantly reduce habitat protection for ALL species, and removes provincial protections for many species that are listed on the federal Species At Risk List (or that have been assessed as special concern), including 35 bird species.

What kind of world are we creating for future generations if they are unable to experience the wonders and joys of seeing such wildlife during their lifetime. I don't want there to be a day where birds like the barn owl, the peregrine falcon, and even the barn swallow, are just memories. Or when an animal as iconic as the caribou can only be seen on our nation's quarter.

Ontario has a responsibility to protect our wildlife and recover those that are at-risk. While the province does indicate it will continue to provide status assessments and guidance, all acts of protection/recovery will rely on the action of volunteers and federal laws.

The province should, instead, move to make greater investments in programs to protect and recover wildlife in Ontario. It is not too late, change can and should be made for these species and for the sake of future generations.
