Hello,
Endangered species and species at risk need habitat that extends past the nest: foraging in surrounding areas are essential to survival of fledglings and nest protection does not mean anything if there is disturbance right beside this area.
Additionally, migratory birds and fish that do not reside here still require protection in order to sustain populations and the government must ensure that these species have essential protected stopover locations to survive long journeys across the province. protection of species is not just about what directly affects us, everything is connected and can have cascading effects on the economy if an ecosystem collapses. These migratory birds are essential to dispersing seeds across the province.
I do not support the extirpation of species for the sake of the economy and unnecessary consumerist tactics. We can grow our economy without sacrificing these essential species. Everything has a role and depends on everything else. Our economy depends on healthy ecosystems, clean air, clean drinking water, healthy pollinator populations, healthy soil, and river systems. Climate change has major impacts on the money that our government and taxpayers have to pay every year and is only increasing with major weather events and human-wildlife interactions at the fault of human disturbance. This money could be going towards building our economy if smart investments are made. Prioritizing the environment is always a good investment.
My Canada has always been about community, helping others and caring about our beautiful country. The actions by the Ford government have not reflected this and I hope that these comments will help show our passion for ensuring the survival of all living things that make up our beautiful country.
Thank you,
Signed, a 25 year old Ontario resident.
