Good day,
I strongly oppose the proposed consolidation of Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities into 7 regional bodies.
Local conservation authorities provide critical floodplain mapping, permitting, and emergency response that protect homes, businesses, and infrastructure from flooding and erosion. Centralizing these services will dilute local expertise, stretch limited resources across vast geographies, and increase the risk of unsafe development in flood-prone areas. This will lead to higher costs for municipalities, property damage, and long-term losses for residents. I am also concerned about the emergency response delays brought about by this change. I urge the government to maintain watershed-based local conservation authorities and reject this consolidation.
