As a resident of Thunder Bay, I am OPPOSED to the Province’s proposed amalgamation of the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) with six other Southern Ontario Conservation Authorities to form the “Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority”. I support LRCA’s recommendation that the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority form a stand-alone regional conservation authority as the “Northwestern Ontario Regional Conservation Authority”. I believe an amalgamation would be detrimental to the conservation of the Northwest Region.
We have no watershed connection to the Huron-Superior Regional Conservation Authority or municipal connections. Ours is a vast and unique area and requires the continued special knowledge that our conservation authority provides. They have done an excellent job developing stewardship programs and the local input they gather helps make that happen. We need our own conservation authority here to continue to protect and do good for the environment in this region.
