For more than 50 years, the watersheds of Ontario have been managed by local municipalities, stakeholders, partners, and community organizations. This allows for essential services such as floodplain mapping, flooding warning systems, long-term environmental and watershed monitoring, environmental education and community outreach programs to be delivered in a way that directly addresses the unique needs of the individual watersheds. If a large regional model replaces this model, local municipalities and watershed residents will risk losing their voice in decisions that would directly affect their community and local natural resources. In addition, this should would significantly alter how these essential services are delivered, funded and prioritize. The health and safety of our communities relies on the health of the watersheds. Please do not sacrifice our health and safety and the health and safety of our watersheds.
