Amalgamating the conservation authorities is a foolish idea. Currently, they are defined by watersheds, which is the fundamental environmental defining structure in any landmass.
Dividing using any other strategy will make it almost impossible to actually manage the area, as downstream issues are caused by upstream activity.
Even if the plan is to simply gather together multiple watersheds into a single conservation authority, I can only imagine that this is to set the table to starve the resulting authority of enough resources to manage the multiple watersheds as there will be NO SAVINGS WHATSOVEVER because the watersheds are separate entities.
What is the plan here? To maybe have the authorities share the use of a photocopier? Or destroy the well-functioning system that we have?
The politicians we currently have in this province have no business saying anything about conservation or management because all these idiots understand is "business" -- and functional ecosystem management is anything but.
Hands off our watersheds!
