Reducing the number of conservation authorities in Ontario into such a low number is harmful and greatly impedes the stated aims of the 1946 Conservation Authorities Act which established these organizations.
The boundaries currently in place may need some refining, and even expansion, but most cannot be combined as outlined in the current proposal. Most of the boundaries in place already follow ecological and physical boundaries in terms of watersheds, ecosystems or ecozones. Properly addressing the specific and most important environmental concerns of these features will be severely diminished.
We should be refining boundaries, and expanding the number of jurisdictions, not consolidating and cutting services for partisan reasons and private interests which have absolutely nothing to do with further restoring, protecting, preserving and managing Ontario's remaining natural areas.
