This is an ill conceived plan. i wish to remind this Conservative Government that the Conservation Authority were a Conservative idea in the wake of Hurricane Hazel.
I urge the Ontario government not to proceed with the proposed consolidation of Conservation Authorities under Bill 68. Centralizing decision-making across vast regions undermines the watershed-based model that has protected communities from flooding, erosion, and source water contamination for over 70 years, and it weakens already-limited local municipal input.
What Ontario needs is not another layer of oversight, but stable provincial funding to ensure consistent, up-to-date floodplain mapping and modernized permitting tools that support housing goals without sacrificing environmental protection. Consolidation risks losing local expertise, institutional memory, and public trust, while adding costs and inefficiencies rather than reducing them.
