Conservation authorities were formed to develop an integrated watershed management approach using watershed boundaries. This approach allows municipalities and the province to collaborate effectively and efficiently to manage development and the environment. With 36 conservation authorities in the most populated areas of Ontario, each authority has local insight and management. They manage a small number of watersheds and municipalities, providing timely permit processing and local protection from floods and natural hazards.

However, consolidating the 36 authorities into 7 will lead to a significant increase in the number of watersheds and municipalities overseen. This consolidation will result in more consulting and insight, delaying permit processing and community protection from natural hazards. Additionally, it will be a waste of taxpayer money, as the consolidation will require rebranding of the conservation authority names.

Overall, I do not support the consolidation of the 36 conservation authorities into 7 entities, especially since I believe it will not benefit the communities that reside within them.
