I am 100% opposed to this legislation.
I am written to my MPP Ric Bresee to say so.
I am strongl opposed to the proposed amalgamation of Ontario’s conservation authorities. While this plan is being presented as a way to “streamline operations” it is, in truth, another attempt by Premier Doug Ford and his associates to consolidate control and weaken the environmental oversight that protects our communities.
Ontario’s conservation authorities play an essential role in safeguarding our watersheds, wetlands, forests, and wildlife habitats. Their strength lies in their local expertise and community-driven decision-making. By amalgamating these authorities, the government would strip away that local accountability and make it far easier for development interests to override environmental science and community priorities.
This move follows a concerning pattern: dismantling environmental protections, undermining local planning, and opening the door for well-connected developers to profit from the destruction of ecologically sensitive lands. The proposed amalgamation is not about efficiency — it’s about eroding oversight in the name of profit.
Our conservation authorities are not bureaucratic “red tape.” They are crucial defenders of Ontario’s ecosystems, drinking water, and flood resilience. Undermining them would be a betrayal of the public interest and a serious setback in the fight against climate change and habitat loss.
I urge you, as my elected representative, to oppose any effort to amalgamate conservation authorities and instead advocate for strengthening and properly funding them so they can continue their vital work. Protecting Ontario’s natural heritage should never take a back seat to private gain.
