I strongly oppose the proposed amalgamation of conservation authority boundaries in Ontario. This approach threatens the vital local expertise and tailored conservation efforts that each authority brings to their respective communities. Conservation is most effective when it is responsive to the unique ecological, social, and economic contexts of each region.

Amalgamating these boundaries can dilute the focus on critical local issues such as water quality, flood management, and wildlife preservation. It risks losing the community engagement and tailored solutions that are essential for effective conservation practices.

I urge decision-makers to reconsider this proposal and prioritize collaboration among conservation authorities without undermining their individual mandates and capabilities. Protecting our environment requires localized strategies that reflect the diverse needs of Ontario’s ecosystems and communities.
