This seems like a story about efficiency and cost savings, but at what cost? I am aware there are dozens of people within this area that are on the sunshine list, with most being in high population areas like Toronto.
What is concerning is the potential for issues regarding increased workload on existing staff, staff shortages and the shear size of these new areas that will now cover tens of thousands of kilometers.
Some areas that are being consolidated seem to be VARY far apart - with hundreds of kilometres of separation, which would result in heightened travel costs, slower reaction times to pressing issues and the needs of different sections of conserved areas being potentially ignored or forgotten due to a lack of adequate representation or drowning out by larger municipalities.
A process like this should really be taken seriously from all levels of government involved; and while cost savings are important, so is conserving areas adequately, in order to fulfill the needs of the people and environments that they serve.
Please do not rush this process, and be transparent about it all too - do not allow this to be an opportunity for allowing developers and rich land owners to cash in while everyone else suffers for their benefit.
These lands belong to ALL Ontarians - they should stay in public hands unless situations dictate that for the greater good, things must change for whatever reason.
Thank you and please keep me posted on this. I would like my children to be able to enjoy this province as good or better than when I first experienced it as a child.
Thank you
