The consolidation of conservation authorities is a direct attack on environmental protections and severely limits the ability of CAs to have local authority and expertise of their jurisdiction. Each CA has an in depth knowledge of their local ecosystems, hazards, and the species. Amalgamating them is a corner cutting way of undermining local authorities. This is not the way to save money, and will cost more as environmental regulations are degraded. CAs protect local communities from flooding and other impacts from climate change. Funding to these organizations should be increased, and environmental regulations should be strengthened in light of the increased economic costs of climate change. Stop pretending to save Ontarians money, we all know you are just trying to make it easier for developers to build in floodplains, sometime that costs taxpayers money in the long run.
