I am opposed to the idea of amalgamating a number of conservation areas. The watersheds across Ontario are comprised of multiple different geographies, hazards and environmental considerations. To consolidate existing authorities into 'mega-authorities' is short-sighted and will do irreparable harm to our local communities. There is no way that a mega-authority can have anywhere close to the local knowledge of the current conservation authorities, nor will they be able to respond in a timely manner to local concerns. There is also a risk that with this plan, the smaller local communities that are currently served well by their existing conservation authorities, will be minimized in favour of larger geographic centres with more voices or louder voices. The current system is not broken. The proposed changes are neither necessary, well thought out, or in the best interests of Ontarians. Please reconsider.
