Respectfully, I do not feel that proposed consolidation of Ontario's conservation authorities in any way fits with the spirit and intent these vitally important entities. I oppose this move unequivocally.

Conservation authorities are locally-based, grassroots organizations formed by municipal governments in response to the challenges posed by a changing landscape; especially, the increased exposure to flooding and erosion hazards and the resulting risks to lives and property. In the case of the GRCA, supported by its seven municipalities, this vision has proven a successful model for nearly 80 years.

I have had first-hand experience with Ganaraska and Lower Trent conservation authoritites, and they have provide me with invaluable information, guidance and service as pertains to my own 100-acre property in Trent Hills, which includes vital water courses and adjacent protected water courses. They have been responsive and focused in their service, which in turn allows me to make decisions about my property that harmonize with the environment and help protect against flood, erosion, habitat loss and climate chaos.

I feel that the effectiveness of these agencies will be lost under an amalgamation. Quite frankly, it makes no sense. If the intent is to enhance efficiency and deliver better service, then why not give the authorities more resources to modernize and introduce efficiencies? I believe the effect of consolidation will be to strip them of power and effectiveness. I suspect that this is the real intent of this move, as we have seen countless times from the Ford government, viz the Greenbelt and Ontario Place corruption, and other instances.

The Ford government should be ashamed. They are no friend of the environment, nor the citizens of Ontario — nor the world. Mother Nature is watching. Their time will come.
