I'm opposed to amalgamating 36 into 7 massive CAs it will be harder and slower to have local voices heard.
My main concern is with the declaration that this will reduce duplication with the municipality. With the removal of natural heritage mandates from the conservation authoritys in 2024, municipalities have not stepped up and filled these review roles. I understand this government does not want to protect environment however this gap is very frustrating during development where nobody knows the answer and developers have to take on the cost where the municipalities would fund conservation authorities previously to do this.
This is what happens The province steam rolls changes without consideration from experts who actually do the work.
This steamrolling is also premature with too many data gaps on what the final framework will be, this can easily be addressed and planned ahead and then move forward with amalgamation or large-scale changes.
If you think this amalgamation will reduce duplication, it will not. It will leave gaps THAT WILL SLOW DOWN DEVELOPMENT.
If you think adding levels of provincial government above local decision makers will speed up the process, additional information needs to be provided on how that is even possible, as it defies basic logic.
