I am very much against the proposed amalgamation of the conservation authorities in Ontario. Local governance, funding, and expertise has been effective at keeping our communities safe and our watersheds managed. The government has not provided a cost benefit analysis. It has not collaborated with the authorities prior to announcing this plan, nor has it given details of how the new zones can effectively provide something "better". This is another "behind closed doors", "we'll work out the details" and "trust us" project that has been a waste of time and resources. The environmental record of this government is an utter failure so there is no trust that this plan can benefit the land, water, and communities across the province.
