I have been a member of HCA since moving to Dundas. The conservation parks are very important to me. In 2019 I had colon cancer and as part to my recovery I became a participant in a study to determine if regular exercise (hiking) would reduce the risk of a second incident of colon cancer. In order to meet my required steps per week I became an avid hiker and the Dundas Valley Conservation park has been a favorite location to hike. The results of the study were published a few months ago and the findings were that people in the exercise group had a lower cancer recurrence than those in the group that didn't participate in the exercise program.
The Conservation parks are there to provide a place to help improve the health and well being of people, the animals and the environment. The membership costs are reasonable for someone on a fixed income.
The provincial government has shown that it is not really interested in nature and the environment.
The local administration is in a much better position to manage the conservation areas. The push to centralize everything is a mistake. Provincial government focus on things that need to be fixed not on messing with something that is working well.
