This is so wrong-headed for many reasons. The most important of which is that how the environment is continually changing due to the ever escalating ravages of out climate emergency. The role of Conservation Authorities cannot be overstated. Communities and residents will be dealing with ever-increasing occasions of unprecedented rainfall, water resource issues, increasing wind damage, and all of effects of those elements on land, resources, infrastructure, and wildlife. Sadly, if this decision is allowed to stand, we will be paying for its impacts for a very, very long time. Well, the financial benefits of amalgamation may appear to be lucrative it has yet to be proven that amalgamation has been beneficial in any other iteration previous to this one. (I.e. the Harris government forcing municipalities to amalgamate, proved detrimental to many communities, and the expected cost savings rarely came to fruition).
