From a conservative voters stance I would argue that some of this make sense. Aligning values, standards, requirements make sense. From someone who has voted conservative in the past and aligns with a lot of values, this act makes no sense. Many of the proposed alignments are bizarre. Most are enourmous territories. The government has been on a campaign to take the boots to conservation in favour of their ongoing relationships with developers at any cost. This started with Fords I’ll advised play for the Greenbelt, although we are all aware that if he felt he could, he would. This government have shown that time and time again, their developer relationships trump all else. All wrapped in this story of economic good for Ontario. Serious questions need to be asked about that relationship, about the story they weave, and and who is driving these proposed changes.
I would support reform of the current act to enhance commonalities of standards and requirements. Beyond that, we should be more careful of what think actually benefits the purpose of the conservation authority, and that purpose moves well past the quick buck making agenda of Fords proposed changes.
