I am completely opposed to the proposal to amalgamate Ontario's CA's. As taxpayers that support CA services through municipal tax levies, I want to see the status quo maintained so that control of current budgets is autonomously controlled through the existing Hamilton Conservation Authority and the board that directs it (with mostly elected officials). Conservation Authorities provided badly needed services to local ratepayers (e.g. maintenance of conservation areas, biological surveys of natural areas, flood forecasting, flood mapping, etc). I do NOT want a larger amalgamated CA body that would loose site of local needs and potential redirect local tax dollars. CA's and the services they provide, need to be STRENGTHENED not weakened by greater jurisdictional complexity.
I'm also appalled at this government's underhanded announcement of this proposal on the friday of Halloween - with a deadline for public comment just days before Christmas. This is not democracy!
