Transportation and rail planning needs to be inter jurisdictional. Urban sprawl and housing prices are pushing people further and further from their workplace. An over-arching strategic plan is necessary to ensure that these people are able to easily move between transit jurisdictions.
Expansion of service should be prioritized to serve areas without access to transit. Major population centres like Peterborough (with no train service) and Guelph (with irregular train service) are essentially un-served by anything but local transit - while major initiatives are underway to improve existing connections to population centres that already have multiple, reliable service.
Consider: It is more affordable and convenient to take a Greyhound bus from Guelph to Toronto than to use existing inter-region transit (e.g., Go Transit)
Consider: It is more affordable and WAY more time efficient to drive from Peterborough to Toronto then to take the single Go Bus that serves this (and many surrounding) communities.
An effective long term infrastructure plan for the province must effectively evaluate the sum of all projects and work to align existing and future projects within this vision. When it comes to transit (inter-regional), this is NOT happening, and not demonstrated in the plan.
