This legislation appears to weigh heavily in favour of the developers and those who lobby for and profit from them. And yet it does not seem to have any parameters under which they are held accountable for the progress, quality and end product of their projects.
Neighbourhoods across the GTA, and in fact in other communities throughout Ontario, are forever being changed by rapid development and higher density projects. This promote sloppy building practices, poor quality buildings and surrounding infrastructure ends up being inadequate.
As an example, in the GTA along the Bayview corridor 'carte blanche' seems to have already been given for town house development without any consideration for traffic flow, school access, and proper construction protocal. Construction vehicles continuously block a full lane of north or south bound traffic during peak hours! With total disregard for residents.
Another development on Bayview has been sitting idle, unfinished and abandoned for years now, while other projects are started all around. Land owners and developers need to be held to account for their projects and there needs to be a system of checks and balances to ensure the projects are done timely and according to a higher standard of building code.
